1999 POKEMON BASE SET 1ST EDITION #8 MACHAMP-HOLO PSA 10
1999 POKEMON BASE SET 1ST EDITION #8 MACHAMP-HOLO PSA 10
Price: $4,499.99
The Machamp from Base Set, that 1st Edition holo rare, sitting pretty in PSA 10. Yeah, card #8/102, the one that started a lot of decks back in the day.
Artwork’s got Machamp flexing all four arms, looking like it’s about to crush whatever’s in front of it. Ken Sugimori nailed that bulky, no-nonsense vibe—pure power in every line.
On the text side, it’s a Fighting type with 100 HP. Pokemon Power is Strikes Back: if your opponent’s attack hits Machamp, even if it knocks it out, the attacker takes 10 damage automatically. No energy needed, just revenge. Then the attack, Seismic Toss, costs three Fighting and one colorless for 60 damage. Solid for evolving from Machoke and turning the tide.
Base Set dropped in 1999, kicking off the whole Pokemon TCG scene in the West. This 1st Edition printing stands out with its limited run—those stamped cards were gone fast, making them a snapshot of the early hype. Unlike unlimited versions, the 1st Edition has that shadowless art box and cleaner look, no drop shadows on the edges. Machamp here was a staple in fighting decks, evolving from the Geodude line and punishing aggressive plays.
For the slab, PSA 10 means flawless edges, corners, surface, and centering—gotta be 9.5 or better across the board. Eye appeal pops with that holo shine against the yellow background; no whitening or print lines to spoil it. From what I’ve seen in pop reports, the PSA 10 count for this 1st Edition holo sits at around 78, which keeps it in that sweet spot of attainable but not everywhere.
I’d keep this one on the shelf where the light hits the foil just right, maybe next to some other Base heavies for that classic lineup feel.
