Umbreon GX from the 2017 Sun & Moon base set, card number 80 out of 149. This one’s a Rainbow Rare? Nah, it’s the standard GX version, but still packs that ultra-rare punch in packs. Graded PSA 10, straight from the slab gods.
The artwork shows Umbreon leaping out with those red eyes glowing, claws extended like it’s about to pounce on some unsuspecting foe. That shadowy vibe fits the Dark-type perfectly, no frills, just pure menace in the illustration.
On the card text, it’s a Darkness-type with 200 HP. Ability is Shadow Bullet—deal 30 to an opponent’s Benched Pokémon when you attack. Attacks include Strafe for 30 damage and you can switch this Pokémon with one of your Benched, then Shadow Bullet for 90 plus another 30 to the bench. And the GX move, Black Ray GX, hits for 100 times the number of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon—talk about a bench clearer, but you know the GX rule, one per game.
Sun & Moon dropped in early 2017, kicking off the whole Alola era with GX cards as the new big thing after EX. This printing stands out because it’s one of the early Eeveelution GX cards, giving Umbreon fans something fresh after years of waiting. The set blended new mechanics with classic Pokémon, and Umbreon here captures that moonlit evolution theme from the games, tying back to Gold and Silver roots. Not the full art version, but this regular art has its own clean appeal without the borders crowding the image.
In the slab, this PSA 10 looks sharp—centering is likely dead on, edges crisp, no whitening, surface flawless under the lights. Eye appeal is high with that deep black background popping against the gold GX border. From what I’ve seen in pop reports, there are around 1,200 PSA 10s out there for this one, not super rare but still a solid chase for completionists.
I’d keep this one in a display case next to my other Eevee evos, just to watch the shadows play.
