This Darkness Ablaze sleeved booster pack from the Sword & Shield series packs in 10 cards straight from the factory line. You’ve got your standard mix: four commons, three uncommons, a rare or higher, one reverse holo that could be anything from the set, and a basic Energy card tucked in there. Plus, it usually slips in a code card for the online game, letting you redeem the pack digitally if that’s your thing. It’s all sealed up tight, ready for that first rip.
From what I’ve seen in community openings on YouTube and Reddit, plus some averaged pull data floating around, these packs hit decently for a Sword & Shield set. You’re looking at about a 1 in 3 chance for a V card, with VMAX pulls landing roughly every 9 packs or so. Full-art trainers and secret rares pop up less often, maybe 1 in 18-20 packs based on collector reports. Hyper rares and those gold secrets are the real long shots, averaging around 1 in 100 or more from big box breaks. Illustration rares weren’t a thing yet in this era, so it’s mostly about those shiny VMAX beasts and rainbow pulls. I’ve cracked a few boxes myself, and the averages hold up—nothing guaranteed in one pack, but that’s the fun of it.
Personally, I’m always wanting that Charizard VMAX with its fiery wingspread art that just dominates the frame. Then there’s Eternatus VMAX, all shadowy and cosmic with those tentacles reaching out like it’s pulling you into the void. Crobat V gets a nod too, sleek and sinister in that full-art pose against a dark backdrop. Coalossal VMAX is another one on my list, bulky and earthy with flames bursting from its rocky hide. And don’t sleep on the Rainbow Rare Butterfree VMAX, colorful and whimsical with those oversized wings fluttering in vibrant detail.
Imagine peeling back the wrapper and seeing that foil glint right away—could be a dud or a keeper.
